Front Load Washer Installation Checklist
Maytag Front Load Washer Installation Checklist
Is your new washer ready for its first load of laundry? Use this basic washer installation checklist to help guide you through the final checks:
- Remove shipping bolts
- Level the washer
- Hoses are connected correctly
- The water is fully turned on
- The drain hose is installed correctly
- The washer is plugged into an operational power supply
- Perform a "Quick Cycle" with an empty load
NOTE: Always review the installation guide that comes with your Maytag washer for specific installation instructions and requirements.
Were the Shipping Bolts removed at installation?
The shipping bolts are located on the backside of the washer, providing stability to the internal suspension during transport. If the shipping bolts are not removed, the washer will not operate correctly and will have excess vibration and noise.
Is the Washer Level?
To operate correctly, the front and rear feet must be in firm contact with the floor, and the washer must be level. Grip the washer from the top and rock back and forth, ensuring all four feet are firmly on the floor. Repeat, rocking the washer from side to side. If the washer rocks, adjust the leveling feet per the installation instructions.
Are the water fill hoses correctly installed?
Ensure the hot (red) hose is connected to the hot (red) water valve and the cold (blue) hose is connected to the cold (blue) water valve. Also, confirm the hoses are not kinked, which can restrict water flow.
Is the water turned on?
Both hot and cold water must be connected to the washer supply and turned on. The washer will not properly operate with only one incoming source of water. For the washer to complete the cycle, the water valve inside the machine needs to have the “pressure” from both attached hoses.
Is the drain hose installed correctly?
If the drain hose is not properly installed, the washer will not drain properly. Check the following for proper installation:
- Drain hose extending more than 4.5" (113 mm) into the drainpipe. Use the U-shape drain hose form to provide the correct drain hose length in the drainpipe or laundry tub.
- Drain hose is taped onto the drainpipe or top of the drain pipe covered in tape. Do not seal the drain hose into the drainpipe with tape. The drain hose should be loose, yet secure. There must be a gap between the drain hose and the drain pipe to allow airflow.
- Drainpipe (standpipe) less than the minimum height of 39". Check that the top of the drain is at least 39" (99 cm) high (as measured from the floor.) If the drain is below 39" (99 cm), the water will start to flow out of the machine due to gravity.
NOTE: Refer to the Installation Instruction for specific information for your model.
Is the washer connected correctly to the power source?
Ensure the washer's power cord is plugged into a grounded three-prong outlet. Do not use an extension cord.
If the washer doesn't turn on, check whether a household circuit breaker or Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlet has tripped. If so, reset the circuit breaker or GFCI. If the washer is in a fuse box, check to see if a fuse has blown and replace it, if necessary. If the problem continues to occur, call an electrician.
Run an empty load
Before washing your first load of clothes, it is recommended that you run an empty cycle. This initial cycle ensures the drum is clean and the dispenser is ready. Add HE detergent to the dispenser, select "Quick Wash," and start the load.
