What's the Correct Location for a Chest and Upright Freezer

Choosing the Best Location for a Maytag Chest or Upright Freezer

Finding the best location for a chest or upright freezer is crucial for its efficiency and your convenience. Whether you're stocking up on frozen meals or organizing bulk purchases, selecting the right location can enhance both performance and accessibility. This guide will help you identify the best location for a chest or upright freezer by examining key factors such as climate conditions, ease of access, and space availability. We’ll also discuss ideal locations and common pitfalls to avoid, ensuring your appliance runs smoothly and efficiently. Let’s explore how to make the best choice for your home setup.

Refer to the Owner's Manual for specific location and space requirements for your specific model number.

Key Considerations for Freezer Placement

Accessibility: Ensure the freezer is easily reachable for loading and unloading, especially with larger items. Consider the layout of your kitchen or storage area to ensure there's a clear, unobstructed path to the freezer. This will make accessing your frozen goods more convenient and enhance your overall experience.

Proximity to power source: Locate your freezer near a dedicated electrical outlet to eliminate the need for extension cords, which can pose safety hazards. Verify that the outlet can support the freezer’s power demands.

Surrounding Temperatures: Place the freezer in a location where the temperature is normally between 32°F (0°C) and 110°F (43°C). Place your freezer in a location where the temperature will fall between the low and high recommended temperatures. Additionally, avoid installing the freezer near an oven, radiator, or other heat sources.

Air Flow: Allow at least 3" (7.5 cm) of air space at the top and on both sides of the freezer and 2" (2.5 cm) between the back of the freezer and the wall. This will allow for air to flow around the freezer.

Door Opening: Ensure there is sufficient room on the side of the upright freezer for the door to open properly, and verify that there is enough space around the chest freezer to open the lid without obstruction. .

NOTE: Some freezers may be installed side by side with another refrigerator or freezer. Allow for a 3" (7.5 cm) clearance at the top and sides and a ¹⁄4" (0.64 cm) clearance between the appliances.
