Damaged Clothing - Top Load Washer

Possible Solutions

Were you washing bedding, sheets, or bulky items on a Cycle other than Bulky or Sheets?

This washer is designed to use the Bulky or Sheets/Bedding cycle for bulky clothing items or bedding. When washing these types of clothing items (including heavy coats or blankets), do not use the Normal cycle or a Rapid Wash cycle (on some models). Clothing performance may not be ideal if using these cycles.

Were items damaged before washing?

Mend rips and broken threads in seams before washing items to help avoid damage to clothing. Also check inside the washer for loose items that could snag fabrics and damage clothing.

Were strings, sashes, belts tied or removed to avoid tangling or did a bra wire break during the wash?

Tie strings or other loose items prior to washing or place in an open mesh bag. Loose strings may tangle with other wash items.

It is also possible for a bra wire to break during the wash, which could cause damage to items. Follow the garment manufacturer's directions. Use a cycle with low-speed wash action and short wash times. Use a garment bag to avoid tangling with other load items.

Was a large load being washed?

The wash load must be balanced and not tightly packed. Load evenly to maintain washer balance. Mix large and small items. Items should move easily through the wash water.

Are there burrs on the agitator or impeller?

Use an old nylon stocking and gently run the stocking around the agitator or impeller. If the stocking sticks in spots, there may be a burr or other imperfection. These are usually caused by items left in the pockets before washing. Always check pockets before running a wash load.
