Maytag Top Load Washer Basket has Vibration or Unbalanced Loads
Vibration in the washer basket:
The washer basket will move while the washer is operating. This is part of the washer's normal operation.
It is normal for the washer basket to move freely from front to back and left to right. This is due to the washer utilizing a hung suspension. The entire wash assembly hangs from 4 suspension rods at each cabinet corner. This suspension allows for better vibration control and higher spin speeds. The wash basket can move without transferring that vibration to the cabinet.
Are all four feet making firm contact with the floor?
Front and rear feet must be in firm contact with the floor, and the washer must be level to operate correctly. Grip the washer from the top and rock back and forth, ensuring all four feet are firmly on the floor. Repeat, rocking the washer from side to side. If the washer rocks, adjust the leveling feet per the installation instructions. If all four feet are in firm contact with the floor, tighten the jam nuts against the washer's base. Jam nuts must be tight against the bottom of the cabinet.
If the washer is installed with a pedestal, be sure the mounting screws are tight, the pedestal's feet are in firm contact with the floor, and the foot lock nut is tight to the frame. Please refer to the Installation Instructions for additional information.
Is the washer overloaded?
Avoid tightly packing the load. Clothing should move freely within the washer. Overloading can cause extra wear and tear on the machine, as well as on the garment. Avoid washing single items, especially bulky items. Balance a single item, such as a rug or jeans jacket, with a few extra items.
