Auto Sensing in a Top Load HE Washer

How Auto Sensing Works in your  Maytag Top Load HE Washer

Auto-Sensing saves you water and automates the whole washing process. It ensures that the best amount of water to clean your clothes fully is used.

Auto sensing option in water level button

If you are trying to conserve water, here’s how Auto-Sensing works in a washing machine:

How Sensing works and water amount determined:

When the Start button is pressed, the washer will perform a self-test on the lid lock.  You will hear a click, the basket slightly turns, and the lid will unlock briefly before locking again.

Next, the washer will use short, slow spins to estimate the load size.  These sensing spins may take 2 to 3 minutes before adding water to the load. The washer will then move the load briefly, pause to allow water to soak into the load, and resume adding water. This process may repeat until the correct amount of water has been added to the load.

Does the water level seem too low, or does the washer appear not to fill completely?

If the water level seems too low or doesn't seem to fill completely, auto-sensing helps stabilize the water used.

The washer senses the size of the load and adds the correct amount of water for the load size. You may notice during a cycle that the wash load is not completely submerged in water. This is normal and necessary for the clothes to move.

Do not add more water than the washer provides. Adding more water will cause the load to float off the wash plate and decrease cleaning.
