Moving a Front Load Washer

Moving a Maytag Front Load Washer

Preparing for the Move

Successfully moving a front load washer begins with careful preparation. Gather the essential tools and materials: pliers, a bucket for residual water, towels for potential spills, and shipping bolts designed for front-load washers. These bolts are crucial for securing the drum during transportation, helping to prevent damage.

  1. Begin by disconnecting the washer from the water supply and electrical outlet.
  2. Turn off the water supply valves, typically located behind the washer, and carefully remove the hoses. Use your bucket to catch any remaining water from the hoses after disconnecting from the washer.
  3. New shipping bolts must be reinstalled to avoid internal suspension and structural damage to your washer during transport. We recommend that an authorized service technician install the shipping bolts.  Shipping bolts stabilize the washer support and suspension system to prevent damage during the moving and shipping.

Transporting your Maytag Front Load Washer

Once the washer has been installed and the shipping bolts replaced, the washer can safely be moved. It’s advisable to have a second person assist you due to the washer's weight and awkward shape. Using a dolly or moving straps can ease the transportation process. Ensure the washer is securely fastened on the dolly or with the straps before moving to prevent any accidental slips or falls.

The washer should be moved in an upright position, as transporting it on its side or other configuration may cause damage to the washing machine.

Setting Up Your Washer in a New Location

Once your front load washer has arrived at its new location, it’s time to reinstall. Follow these steps to ensure it functions correctly:

  • Proper placement and leveling: Position the washer in its designated spot and use a level to ensure it is perfectly balanced. Proper leveling prevents excessive vibration and noise during operation.
  • Remove the shipping bolts: If the shipping bolts are not removed, the washer will not run and will have excessive vibration.
  • Reconnecting water supply and electricity: Attach the water supply hoses to the corresponding connections, ensuring they are tightly secured. Turn on the water supply valves and check for leaks. Next, plug the washer into the electrical outlet.
  • Testing the washer before use: Run a short cycle to test the washer. This helps verify that it functions correctly and that all connections are secure. Check for any unusual noises or leaks during the test cycle.

By following these steps, you can ensure your front load washer is set up correctly and ready for use in its new location. Knowing how to transport a washer and dryer and how to move a washing machine will make the entire process smoother and more efficient.
