Lint on Clothing - Front Load Washer

Possible Solutions

Did you use the "Wash & Dry" option (some models)?

Some new front load washers offer a new "Wash & Dry" option. This option is intended for small loads that can run for an extended period of time, like overnight, or while you are at work. Most loads, using this option, will run between 6-7 hours. The washer includes a small built-in heating element, which is smaller than your dryer, so it will take longer to complete the cycle. This option is not meant to replace your dryer.

When you are using the “Wash & Dry” option, you may notice more lint on your clothing and/or inside of the washer than a traditional wash only cycle. Since the washer is doing both the washing and the drying, lint will accumulate just like a traditional dryer. However, since the washer does not have a lint screen, you may notice  lint on clothing or inside the washer basket. This lint build-up is especially common in and around the door seal. It is important that the door seal is cleaned after every load when the “Wash & Dry” option is used.

Did you line dry the load of laundry?

You can expect some lint on your laundered items when line drying. The air movement and tumbling of a dryer removes lint from the laundry load.

Were you washing a large load?

Consider reducing your load size. Leave enough space in the washer to allow the laundry items to tumble freely. Make sure that there are not any laundry items sticking out beyond the stainless steel basket. A tightly packed load of laundry is more likely to trap lint.

Was tissue or paper left in pockets?

Always check all pockets and the interior of the washer before starting a new load of laundry. The lint may be caused by paper or tissues left in pockets.

Was new clothing in the load of laundry?

New clothes tend to create more lint in the first few washes.  Washing new clothing inside out will help reduce the amount of linting in the cycle.

Was the load properly sorted?

Separate lint-takers from lint-givers. Synthetics, knits, and corduroy fabrics will pick up lint from towels, rugs, and chenille fabrics.
