Cleaning the Interior - Front Load Washer

Possible Solutions

Have you performed the "Clean Washer" cycle, or has the "Clean Washer" light come on?

Run the Clean Washer cycle every month to maintain washer freshness. Running the Clean Washer cycle once a month can help prevent odors from developing in your washer. The Clean Washer cycle uses higher water volumes in combination with affresh® washer cleaner, liquid chlorine bleach, or another washing machine cleaning product to thoroughly clean the inside of the washer. NOTE: Do not use thickened, easy-pour, or no-splash bleach when running the Clean Washer with affresh® cycle, as it may cause excessive suds to develop during the cycle.

Steam models only: During the first 20 minutes of the cycle (depending on the model), it will activate the steamer, but the drum will not spin or fill with water. You may see condensation on the door window during this initial phase. If you are using an affresh® Washer Cleaner tablet, it will not dissolve completely during the steam phase. This is normal. After the cycle is complete, leave the door open slightly to allow for better ventilation and drying of the washer interior.

Have you cleaned the dispenser drawer (on some models)?

The dispenser drawer should be removed and cleaned regularly per directions in your Owner's Manual.

Are you using HE High-Efficiency detergent?

Always use only HE detergent. Using non-HE detergent or more than the manufacturer's recommended amount of detergent can cause excessive suds, which can lead to the washer leaking, draining concerns, and/or poor rinsing performance.

Maytag recommends using Swash® Laundry Detergent. It is designed to work in both high-efficiency (HE) and non-HE washing machines. With an 8x concentrated formula, you’ll use about a quarter of the detergent you’d need with a traditional 2x concentration detergent. It may look like a small amount, but you’ll be amazed at its effectiveness.

Flipping the detergent world on its cap.

Just flip it, squeeze it, and start your laundry cycle. With this easy squeeze, you get the right amount and the clean you want every time.
