Understanding the Steam Option
A steam dryer is an advanced appliance that uses steam to enhance the drying process, setting it apart from traditional dryers that rely solely on hot air. While conventional dryers work by circulating heated air to remove moisture from clothes, steam dryers introduce water vapor into the drying cycle, which helps to reduce wrinkles, eliminate odors, and refresh garments without a full wash.
By incorporating steam, these dryers can penetrate fabrics more deeply, aiding in moisture removal and relaxing fibers. This results in less ironing and a more polished look for your clothes. This feature is particularly beneficial for maintaining the quality of delicate fabrics and minimizing wear and tear over time.
During the Quick Refresh and Enhanced Touch-Up Steam cycles, water is sprayed at about 4-5 minutes into the cycle for about 1 minute. Not all cycles and options are available when using a steam cycle. Refer to your Owner's Manual for specific information for your model.
Using the Steam Option on Your Maytagl Dryer
Activating the steam option on your dryer can enhance your laundry experience by reducing wrinkles and refreshing fabrics. To get started, ensure your dryer is plugged in and powered on. Next, select your desired drying cycle on the control panel. Look for the steam option—this may be labeled as 'Steam Refresh' or 'Steam Cycle'—and press the corresponding button to activate it.
- Quick Refresh: Use Quick Refresh to smooth out wrinkles and reduce odor from loads of one to twelve dry items of wrinkle-free cotton, cotton-polyester blend, common knits, and synthetic garments. Steam cycles are optimized for large, normal, or heavy loads. Using this feature with smaller loads could result in wet spots or condensation on the door or interior drum. To program, select the number of garments to be refreshed. Once Start is pressed, the cycle time is displayed based on your selection. The temperature is preset to Medium and cannot be adjusted.
- Enhanced Touch-Up: Use Enhanced Touch Up to smooth out wrinkles from loads left sitting in the dryer or from clothes packed in a suitcase or closet. The temperature is set to Medium, but may be adjusted to High if desired. Cycle time can be adjusted.
For best results when using the steam feature, consider these tips: load your dryer with items that can benefit from steam, such as wrinkled clothes or curtains. Avoid overloading the dryer, as this can prevent steam from circulating effectively.
