Removing and Replacing the Oven Door

Guide to Removing the Maytag Oven Door for Cleaning

It’s important to know how to replace the door without harming the rest of the appliance.

There are two door types: with hinge latches and without hinge latches.

To Remove Maytag Oven Doors with Hinge Latches

  1. Before removing the oven door, prepare a flat surface to place the oven door. It should be covered with a soft blanket, or use posts from packing material.
  2. Open the oven door.
  3. Locate oven door hinge locks/latches in both corners of the oven door.
    • Rotate/flip up the hinge lock/latch toward the oven door to the unlocked position.
    • If the door hinge lock/latch is not rotated/flipped fully, the door will not be removed properly.

  1. Partially close the door to engage the door latch locks. The door will stop at this point.

  1. Using two hands, grasp the side edges of the door at the midpoint. Face oven cavity.
  2. Locate slots on each side of the oven cavity for door hinge locks.

Slot in oven cavity to engage door hinge

  1. At a 45° angle, align door hinges with slots in the lower front of the oven cavity. Slowly insert the door while maintaining a 45° angle. The door is engaged in the slot when you feel a slight drop.

Attaching oven door to oven cavity by inserting the door in oven slots at 45 degree angle

  1. Lower oven door to fully open position: If the oven door does not open to full 90°, repeat steps 1 - 3.
  2. Locate the oven door hinge locks/latches in the corners of the oven door and rotate the hinge locks/latches toward the oven cavity to the locked position.

partially close oven door

  1. Close the oven door.
  2. When hinges are properly installed, and the door is closed, there should be an even gap between the door and the control panel: If one side of the oven door is hanging lower than the other side, the hinge on that side is not properly installed.
    • Repeat the steps to remove and replace the oven door.

To Remove Maytag Oven Door without Hinge Latches
