Cavity or Interior Light Not Working - Over-the-Range Microwave

Possible Solutions

Has the light failed?

IMPORTANT: Use only an incandescent light bulb as a replacement.  Do not use an LED light bulb unless stated in your Owner's Manual.

On some models, the light bulb can be replaced.  The cavity or interior light should come on when the door is opened, or the microwave is operating if the display is on check or replace the light bulb (on some models). The cavity light bulb is located behind the vent grille at the top front of the microwave oven, under the bulb cover, and is replaceable.

Is the power cord connected?

Warning - 3 prong power cord.jpg

Verify power cord is connected to a grounded, operational outlet.  If you are not sure the outlet is grounded, functional, and is easily accessible, connect a known operating small appliance with a similar power cord to the outlet to verify the outlet is grounded and operational.

OR

Power unit down by unplugging the power cord to the microwave or by turning off the circuit breaker, for one (1) minute. Power the unit up by plugging in the microwave power cord or by turning on a circuit breaker. If the outlet is not grounded and operational, you may have to contact a qualified electrician.

Has the circuit breaker tripped or a fuse blown?

Reset power to the product:

  • Power unit down by turning off the circuit breaker(s) for one (1) minute.
  • Power unit up by turning on the circuit breaker(s) or replacing the fuse.
  • Verify microwave operation.
  • Monitor the microwave for one (1) minute to ensure proper operation.

NOTE: Do not continue to attempt to operate the microwave if the circuit breaker or fuse opens again. Disconnect power cord, turn off the circuit breaker or remove the fuse that controls the appliance.
